Dog Walking Locations That Make Money

Are you an animal lover? You probably already know then that many areas and community parks do not allow people to walk dogs on their grounds. Vacation sites, apartment listings, and any other reference material letting people know where dogs are welcomed are greatly in demand. This is where you come in!

Write a book or offer an online reference site that lets people know where their beloved canines are allowed to walk or play! You would need to do a little research to find out where dogs ARE allowed and then you could create a map of sites or locations that dogs are welcomed. Clearly mark out on easy to read maps and perhaps give a brief description of each location, to let dog walkers know what the terrain and personality of each location offers. Are there clearly marked paths or places that they can let the dogs run free for a bit? Is there a designated dog park nearby? Is it a beach that allows dogs to run along the sand with, or without, their owners? Are small dogs allowed, but larger dogs discouraged? These are the kinds of places that dog owners and professional dog walkers need to know about in order to decide the best places to walk their pets, they would love to know about these various places.

Providing photos is another way to get your readers excited about visiting a new dog walking location. Show photos of particularly scenic locations that dog walkers would enjoy with their canine, as well as locations where many dogs can be seen friskily playing together. This will make the locations seem even more inviting.

You will need to decide if you would want to make your information a reference guide for just locals or if you want to expand your scope to include the best locations for your state or even areas across the United States! You could even make listings for popular vacation destinations in other countries!

If you decide to specialize in just your state of residence, you can spend time driving around and scouting out possible walking locations. Are there signs posted? Are dogs allowed only if there feces are removed or are they allowed free reign? Visit different communities and ask around. Networking with park rangers and other park staff is a great way to find out about these kinds of locations.

Be sure to also run searches online to find references to local spots that people may chat about in chat rooms, newsgroups, and personal blogs. Sometimes these are the best places that no one in the general public has heard about yet and your readers will be so grateful to be getting the inside scoop!

You can publish your reference information in book form and make a tidy profit selling it. You could sell each book for $30 or more. Choose more than one location to make even more books and more money. You could also run a website supported by ads that give your dog walking public constantly updated dog walking locations and up-to-date information on any changing rules or restrictions.

You can advertise your dog walking reference guide at local veterinarians’ offices and pet stores. You may even want to print up flyers letting people know about your reference guide anywhere that pet owners may gather. This includes grocery stores and coffee shops. Dog owners are everywhere! Local Chambers of Commerce would likely be willing to help you advertise your reference guide since it will encourage people to visit their town with their pets!

Animal Registration Service

People really love their pets, these days it seems that is where they spend a lot of their money – on veterinarians, animal-grooming services, and pet supply stores are doing a booming business. Nevertheless, one crucial area that pet owners often neglect to invest their time or money in, is animal safety. Dogs, cats, and other animals often get lost, and unless they have tags and other clearly identifiable information on file, it is nearly impossible to find them again. That is where you come in! An animal registry provides a much-needed service for pet owners, as well as a decent source of income.

The simplest way to begin this type of business is by selling pet licenses. Depending on your municipality’s laws, you may have to apply for a business license to sell dog licenses to the public, so check before you begin. Your license tags will provide information helpful in locating a lost pet’s owner: the animal’s name, the date of last vaccination, and the owner’s contact information. Such licenses usually cost between $6 and $10.

If you have a home computer and a simple database program, you could provide a comprehensive identification service for an additional annual fee. This program could include the license as well as a database registry containing identifying information about the animal (photographs, breed, identifying marks, identifiable behaviors), updated yearly. If the animal is ever lost or stolen, you would run a search with the local Humane Society, pounds, animal shelters, police departments, and the classified ads to help the owner find the missing pet.

Another way to add value to your service is to stay in regular contact with your customers. You might send out a monthly newsletter, through regular mail or e-mail, with information on local pet shows, auctions, local breeders, news from the animal shelter, any other information of interest to animal lovers, and space for classified advertisements.

One of the best places to advertise your service is with local veterinary hospitals. Ask to see if you can place your flyers in their office. If you want to step up to selling the new electronic ID products, which must be inserted by a veterinarian, you might be able to make a deal with them – your advertising in exchange for more client referrals. Pet shows also provide an excellent venue for networking. From there, look to other standard advertising venues – local notice boards at pet supply stores, the classified ads, the Yellow Pages, etc. If you are good at what you do, customer word of mouth will really help your business grow.

This is a great one-person service. Startup costs are minimal – as little as $500 to cover tags and equipment, and you could make anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 at this business, particularly if it is clear that you love and care about animals. Make sure you are insured – after all, even the most friendly-looking dog will sometimes bite.

A New Spin on Good Old Fashioned Home Parties

Pets are an important part of our families and are usually treated so. Instead of the fun of the famous Tupperware parties, you can hold pet parties where you sell products specifically made for family pets!

According to the recent statistics from the Humane Society of the United States, almost 40% of all households own at least one dog and 36% own at the least one cat. That is an approximation of close to 170 million pets that Americans have in their homes. This is a market that you could tap into, by offering your favorite choices of pet products at fun in-home parties.

Since our pets are an important part of our families, we obviously spend money on many things for them just as we do for our other family members. There is such a broad range of items that we can offer at these parties, from food items to toys! In addition, we have only included the statistics for dogs and cats, there are many other kinds of pets that families own and are buying things for too.

You could have specific parties for dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, birds, and the list goes on. Don’t leave out those farm animals also; horses, pigs, cows, etc. There is a good reason that there are so many large pet stores everywhere these days.

If you are not sure how to get started, you could design an attractive flyer, visit all of the veterinarian offices in your area, and ask if you could leave your information in their offices. You don’t want them to take up much room, but make them attractive so they catch peoples interest, and people will pick them up while visiting.

Another way to get started is by asking your friends if they would be willing to host a party for you and invite all of their friends. You should be able to book more parties from these and grow from there. Of course, you should always offer an incentive to anyone offering to host a party. Most companies offer a certain percentage of the sales towards an item or items of their hosts choice.

You don’t need to carry a lot of stock with you, just enough so that people can touch and check-out items that they would like to buy. You could print up several different catalogue items that you offer but don’t have with you, or offer a web-site for them to look at other items you carry. Tell them that they can also order from your website and credit the host for introducing you to them when ordering.

Be sure to offer all of your party members a chance to sign up for regular announcements of sales of your items and include them on a mailing list. This is a great way to establish a reliable customer list to draw from when business is slow.

It is a good idea to try to bring a few things to your parties that people can go home with after the party too. This just means to be sure and find some items that you can sell at a reasonable price and are easy to transport with you in your vehicle. Make these items only available to the guests that attend your parties.

You will also want to have some cute, easy, and fun games to play at your parties. Have prizes for those that win your games and gifts as door prizes.
